One of the best presents you can give to a new mother are handmade baby gifts. However, this takes time and skill, and finding enough of both of these can be difficult. Fortunately there is an alternative, buying handmade baby gifts online can be the answer you are looking for – especially when the handmade baby gifts come from a reliable person and when they can also be sent directly to the mum!
Finding Handmade Baby Gifts
Finding the right supplier of your handmade baby gifts can be a daunting task. If you don’t know the maker, it is hard to be sure that you are not just buying from someone with clever marketing, or that the goods are not outsourced to a third world country and handmade on the cheap! The only way to be really sure is to either know the maker or go on recommendation, hence the reason for this article. When my second child was born, we received a lot of hand me downs, however a kind relative and godmother, sent a lovely vest – also one of the sweetest examples of handmade baby gifts I have ever come across.
Knowing That You Really Are Getting Handmade Baby Gifts
Grandy and Baa was created by a mother, who had previously worked as a nanny and decided not to return to work once she had started her family. She had a great talent for sewing and chose to try to use this to build a home business which would not affect her time with her children. Her handmade baby gifts are great; she has an impressive eye for simple designs which look wonderful on kids.
There is another great touch, the designs are all named. Each of the designs is associated with children who she has know and/ or looked after. Sometimes it is the little touches which remind you how individual your handmade baby gifts are.
How To Buy These Handmade Baby Gifts
Grandy and Baa is based in Sydney Australia, but she will happily ship (at very reasonable prices) to anywhere in the world.
Do They Wear Well?
The all important question – do they wear well? I so liked my Edmund Elephant and wanted to make sure that my son got as much wear out of it as possible so it got worn, washed, dried and worn again – I barely made it into the drawer. Also I weaned my son during this time and it still survived with such vibrant colours that I am considering framing and hanging it in his bedroom as I don’t like the idea of Edmund Elephant being shut away.
Having received one of these handmade baby gifts, I am certain that any mother would appreciate them.
Gifts For Newborns

Most of us have been in the situation of not knowing what to buy when we leave home, but feeling sure that once we hit the shops we will be inspired and all will be OK. Well, when you are choosing gifts for newborns this is not always quite as easy. The vast amount of stock out there which is marketed as gifts for newborns is simply overwhelming.
If you have never had children then there is a whole world of gifts for newborns which is about to baffle you. The toy and marketing industry have come up with more ideas for newborns than any parent could; admittedly a lot of them are based on just a few simple ideas, also be warned that almost all toy gifts for newborns comes in three colours, boy colours, girl colours and the ‘we don’t yet know the sex of the baby’. In reality it is a little while before a newborn baby can hold a toy, so anything you buy is going to be for use in a few months time at the earliest, and some of the plastic and wooden toys will not be used until the baby is either sitting or crawling well and they are able to not fall on top of the toy and hurt themselves. So for earliest play you will need to choose from the range of soft toy gifts for newborns.
If you think that the baby will be inundated with toys then you may want your gift for baby to be clothes. Newborns only need a fairly small range of styles; vests, baby grows, snuggle suits and hats. If you want to buy some more exciting clothes then it is best to buy a larger size for the baby to grow into. Also if you are buying clothes gifts for newborns then it is worth remembering that the parents may have bought plenty of newborn size clothes in preparation.
Baffled by buying gifts for newborns, what about buying something which is for mother and baby? There are little bath set gifts which you may think will be nice for mum or dad to use when bathing the baby. Unfortunately these, regardless of what the packaging says, may not be suitable for a newborns sensitive skin, also mum may worry about putting anything on her babies skin and therefore may choose the just wash the baby with warm water.
Finally instead of trying to master the maze of gifts for newborns you could simply buy for mum and dad. Sometimes a little luxury item will go along way. Perhaps a bottle of champagne to share and then a bath soak for tired mum. If mum is breastfeed or has had stitches it is important to choose a suitable product. Lavender is a natural antiseptic which is now recommended by midwives to put in baths instead of the old fashioned salt bath which previous generations had to endure. So this is a safe, healing and natural ingredient which mum will appreciate.
Baby Gifts To Send

Having a baby it exciting and it is always great to acknowledge the event for friends. What do you do if your friends who have just had a baby do not live near by and you cannot visit them? How do you find suitable baby gifts to send by post?
Choosing baby gifts to send
There are several types of baby gifts; those which are to be used and enjoyed and those which are to be kept as a keepsake for ever. If you are looking for baby gifts to send by post there are several aspects to consider. You do not want anything which is too heavy as this will get expensive, so wooden toys are pretty much out. Baby gifts to send which are fragile are also a bad idea, what is the recipient supposed to do if the gift arrives broken? Do they tell you and then you feel obliged to replace it, or do they keep quiet and hope that it never gets accidentally let out in future conversations? Bulky baby gifts to send can also be a problem. If the recipient is out when the postman tries to deliver, then they may end up having to drive to their local depot and queue just to get hold of the present. This is probably not where a new parent wants to go on their first visits out … So when choosing baby gifts to send you want them to be small enough to fit through the letterbox, unbreakable and light enough to send without incurring the cost of the present in postage.
Clothes are prefect baby gifts to send.
Clothes are great baby gifts to send as they fit all the criteria above. It is also easy for the new parent to put the baby in the clothes and take a picture which can be sent back with the thank you, or when the baby grows into the clothes. When buying baby gifts to send you will have the think carefully as they parents will probably not be able to return the clothes or swap them for a different size. If in doubt, buy a size or two too large if the baby gifts are to be sent by post. Also, it is probably a good idea to buy clothes which can be mixed and matched with other items of the baby’s wardrobe as the clothes will get better wear this way. Also it means that the parents will still be able to get the look they want for their new baby, if you send a winter coat and hat set, you may find that it is not exactly what the parents wanted and as a result the clothes do not get worn much. If, however, you choose a vest, top and trousers/skirt, then even it all together it is a bit too pink or blue, then the parents can mix with other items to get the look they want for their baby.
With all these things to think about when choosing baby gifts to send by post, it can all seem such an effort, but it is worth the effort as it is always great to have your baby acknowledged.
Baby Backpack Carriers
May 9, 2011 Posted by jon
Having a baby does not mean that you need to give up all aspects of your life! Equally there are plenty of activities which you can start to replace any which fall by the way side. It is inevitable that you will change how you spend you free time, but it is not all about sacrifice.
When Can You Use Backpack Baby Carriers
If you are going to be carrying a small baby for any period of time it is important to have the correct equipment. For a very small baby who is still not holding their heads then it is best to use a forward facing sling which is suitable from birth. Once your child is holding their head well then they can be carried using backpack baby carriers. As you cannot see you child when they are in backpack baby carriers it is important for your own peace of mind to be sure that they are comfortable and safe.
Why Use Backpack Baby Carriers
If you are used to carrying your child in a front carrier it may seem strange to move them to a backpack carrier where you cannot see them, however there are advantages. Firstly the backpack baby carriers are built with sturdy frames which are designed to distribute the weight of the baby to make it as comfortable as possible for the person carrying the child. As your child gets older and heavier you will put less strain on your back using backpack baby carriers than using the front carriers. Also you will find that you have much more manoeuvrability with your baby in backpack baby carriers. Backpack baby carriers leave you freer to bend over, to walk with correct posture and to scramble when a path may not be smooth and tarmaced. If you are planning on travelling any hikers’ paths it is safer for both you and the baby if you use backpack baby carriers as you will be better able to climb and maintain your footing in areas with loose stones or mud.
Choosing The Best Backpack Baby Carriers
As with most things, you get what you pay for, if you buy the cheapest backpack baby carriers on the market you will probably be getting a lesser design and manufacturing quality compared to the top end of the market. It is important that your backpack is comfortable and suitable. You should have it correctly fitted and the straps should all sit in the correct places. Do not buy a backpack which does not fit your build, this will be uncomfortable and may damage your back and will also probably stop you from enjoying your fresh air with you baby. A good judge of the quality of a backpack (apart from the price) is the quality of the straps. The straps taking weight should be well padded and comfortable; all straps should also be adjustable.
Finally, remember to take you baby with you when you choose your backpack baby carrier and to try it on with you child. If you feel that your child is not comfortable then do not purchase the backpack. It is important for the child to be supported and happy.
