When most women discover they are pregnant, there is usually a first spurt of buying for the baby, often it is only one or two items, which are particularly pretty. Towards the end of pregnancy when everything seems to be looming and after reading far too many books, suddenly it seems that you need everything. Don’t go and panic buy. In reality babies need to be cleaned, fed, clothed and have somewhere warm to sleep. Clean is easy, newborns should only be washed in water anyway – that keeps that one simple. A baby has usually outgrown a Moses basket within three months – so a second hand one is still in nearly perfect condition. Discount baby clothes come in two forms; second hand or sales. The first size that your baby will probably wear is a newborn size, then after a couple of weeks moving onto 0 – 3 month size. With all the gifts that you are given for a new born baby, it is often the case that clothes are only worn once or twice before the baby has grown out of them, hence second hand newborn clothes are usually in exceptional condition. Once you get beyond the 3 month mark you will know more about the style of clothes you like and find the easiest – for example some parents swear by dungaree while others find them a nuisance. Once you have found one of these or if you live near one, you will probably be a regular visitor.

If you are looking to buy your discount baby clothes new then there are two options. Firstly visit an outlet centre, otherwise, buy in the sales. Buying in the sales means that you will always be buying in advance; when the winter clothes are on sale, you will be buying for the following winter! Using this method you can have a whole wardrobe for your child of new discount baby clothes, so long as you plan. Most of the factory outlets are outside towns, so they are not somewhere you could just pop along to, therefore this method also require planning, but you will probably be able to buy for the current season.
